US senator tells leader of Venezuela to leave his country
(MENAFN) US Senator Rick Scott declared that Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro’s time in power is limited and urged him to leave the country.
"If I was Maduro, I'd head to Russia or China right now," the Florida Republican said, emphasizing that Maduro’s "days are numbered" and predicting that "something's gonna happen" either from within Venezuela or from external forces.
When asked whether the United States is preparing to invade Venezuela, Scott replied that he does not believe so, adding, "If we do, I'd be surprised."
His remarks come amid escalating military activity in the region, including the arrival of a US warship in Trinidad and Tobago, as pressure on Venezuela increases. Earlier this month, US President Donald Trump authorized CIA operations inside the country.
Scott also suggested that removing Maduro could have wider regional implications, claiming it would mark "the end of Cuba" and asserting, "America is gonna take care of the Southern Hemisphere."
On the question of deploying ground troops, the senator acknowledged that widespread American war fatigue makes such an action "very difficult," but he noted that international forces could intervene "if they needed to."
Venezuela did not immediately respond to Scott’s statements. Maduro has previously condemned US military maneuvers, accusing Washington of trying to spark "a new eternal war," and the country recently announced the deployment of 5,000 Russian-made Igla-S anti-aircraft missiles to bolster national air defenses. The US has also carried out strikes on suspected Venezuelan drug vessels in international waters.
