US Senator Rick Scott Urges Maduro to Step Down

(MENAFN) US Senator Rick Scott asserted that Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro should step aside, cautioning that his tenure is coming to an end.

"If I was Maduro, I'd head to Russia or China right now," the Florida Republican remarked during an interview with a news agency published on Sunday.

Scott emphasized that Maduro's "days are numbered," forecasting that "something's gonna happen" either from internal unrest or external pressures.

When asked whether the United States is on the verge of invading Venezuela, Scott responded that he does not anticipate such action, stating: "If we do, I'd be surprised."

His statements coincided with rising military tensions in the region. A US naval vessel arrived in Trinidad and Tobago on Sunday as the Trump administration intensifies its stance against Venezuela.

Earlier in October, US President Donald Trump revealed that he had authorized CIA operations within Venezuela.

Scott further suggested that ousting Maduro would mark "the end of Cuba," adding: "America is gonna take care of the Southern Hemisphere."

On the subject of deploying ground troops, the senator admitted that American war fatigue makes it "very difficult" to commit forces, yet he noted that international forces could intervene "if they needed to."
